Central Pacific Railroad named the town of Rocklin for its granite quarries. Granite mining ceased in 2004 and it is now a residential suburb of the Greater Sacramento Metropolitan area. The Educational Media Foundation and SMA Solar Technology have their headquarters here. It is also home to Sierra College and Sierra Jessup University.
There are about 60,000 residents in Rocklin with an average household income of more than $90,000. You’ll find mostly small businesses here although Blue Oaks Town Center has several national tenants and more regional shopping centers are planned. With over 30 parks and two golf courses, Rocklin is all about enjoying the outdoors. It likes at the base of the Sierra Nevada and is less than a hundred miles from the resort town of Lake Tahoe.
